For all you pick players and punk bassists out there....I wanna know what you think is the best punk bass line out there...or just list a few.

PS- Matt Freeman is my dad.:D

  2. i don't know that many great basslines that you'd consider punk... except just about anything by rancid... i love the bass intro to "blacklisted" off short music for short people...
goldfinger have a few fat lines, including the skankin line to "superman", or the intros to "f**k you and your cat" and "all i want"
less than jake... "johnny quest thinks we're sellouts" is punk-ska, i dunno if that counts...

anyway, that's my input, i'm sure everyone's gonna shoot me up and bring my down to chinatown, thanks to my lack of references to classic punk like "should i stay or should i go" by the clash... and yottskry12 (sitting next to me) reckons i should include "transmission" by joy division... if you weren't laughing at me before, you are now, so i'm gonna quit while i'm never gonna get ahead... and stuff.

Not really punk, but I like Sting's line from the Police's "Dead End Job". This was before they got into the reggae thing and were still trying to fit in with the punk crowd. Unfortunately, the complexity of the line probably disqualified them.

  5. You can't get more punk than the Ramones, and you can't get more Ramones than Blitzkrieg Bop, albeit, it's not the most complex bassline, in fact, its probably the simplest line to play in the world, but it's still the best.

Blacklisted is good as well, so is London Calling and Whiteman in Hammersmith Palais.

I also love All of Dillinger 4's basslines, just because I love All of Dillinger 4

How 'bout Maxwell Murder by Rancid?

  19. Maybe "totalimmortal" by AFI, but "journey to the end of the east bay" by rancid is quite lovely too. Heck, anything by rancid is.

  20. I was gonna say that! Geeze! :D
