Buddy has 1982 Washburn B-40. P/J setup. Passive. Jazz pickup, he says is just plain trebly and weak. DiMarzio size. The P pup is just fine. Whats the best replacement? Opinions?

Check out a DiMarzio Ultra J, wired in series. Loud, thick, and hum free!

If the Ultra J is too loud, try the Model J. Heck, even a Duncan STK-2Jb would be hotter than a standard pickup; and has alnico magnets as well. The Dimarzios use ceramic magnets to load their poles. The Model J has steel poles, the Ultra J has alnico poles. Ultra J is a hotter pickup, but the Model J is darker and has more mids. The Duncan I mentioned is called neutral and is stated that is doesn't have an emphasis on any frequency.

    All good advice--passing all on---gracias!
  6. My vote - The Dimarzio UltraJazz. Perfect match for a pretty standard vintage-type output P pickup
