Is it just the Music Man that gives Pat Seals his sound? This is the sound I have been chasing. I need to figure out how I can get that tone and feel.

My Ric. The neck humbucker is fantastic. Then again, my deep experience with other basses is limited to a Series 10 Eclipse and an MIM Jazz.
On an album?
McCartney, RAIN/Paperback Writer.
As a general type of sound?
Probably a P-bass sound.

Dead heat between the one that that Pastorius guy played and the one that that Jamerson guy played.
I dont know if i cld point out just one..BUT..
several p bass recordings/spectors and warwicks (pnuts tone comes to mind)
the best bass tone that came from me playing? definatly a spector.
A lot of people might choose their own gear as "favorite"..unfortunatly i dont own the basses that are my absolute favorite/best tone ive ever heard..but im gettin close.

wow this is an old thread! Of course my bass is my favorite which is a Ibanez ATK750KOA but I recently played a 1975 Gibson Thunderbird and never heard anything like it. very different tone that they typical Fender.
Not a huge fan of the band, but the bass sound on the first Perfect Circle album was pretty sweet to me. Video shows a pick played P bass through an SVT unless I'm mistaken, doesn't meant it was used to record tho.
The "best" sounding bass tone I've ever heard would most likely have to be Mudvayne's Ryan Martini and his Warwick Thumb NT in the song "Death Bloombs" and "Dig"... Probably the most evil awesome "growly" tone I've ever heard!
