My bass originally came with Elixer strings, and while they had good tone, i didn't like the slippery feel they had, and they are a bit too expensive for my wallet. I've been using Ken Smith strings recently, but i'm wondering if somebody could recomend anything that would sound better before I go out and start testing some different strings.

you've not given nearly enough info for anyone to really answer you.

Going only on the "slippery" fact... I'd say try D'addario Pro Steel. They are rougher and have a nice bright & crunch tone that is also full with punch.

Any Stainless Steel Round will feel rougher then coated or nickel strings.... lots of good brands out there. Just try some Stainless Rounds.

I can't say enough good stuff about DRs. I like the low riders in SS myself.
