I'm sure this has been posted here before, but im wondering what the best string configuration is for tuning my 4 string to C. I 've been using DR 45-105's on a G&L L2000, and they've been working out ok after a pro setup. However tuning it is a pain sometimes, cause the signal fluctuates alot because it is so low. I just got a new bass (Fender Aerodyne J bass) and I'm going to set it up the same way. I've heard of using a 5 string set and swaping the low B string with the E, but never tried it. Would that require a new nut? Would heavier strings help solve my problem? Is there a particular brand/gauge people have had good luck with?

Depends on the nut. Might not need a new one, but you'll need to file it down.

Maybe. Depends on what you're expecting.

GHS. But I'm not picky. I tune CFBbEb
