ive got an sb7 now but im looking to step up to a better synth. right now i cant choose between the syb-3 and the akai deep impact. i played the boss one and really liked it, but ive never tried the akai. can anyone share there opinions and the pros and cons about the two.
I've been using the SB-7 with a Boss Octaver, and have been getting a real nice synth bass tone. The SYB-3 looks good, but I've read many posts here at TB about its tracking being problematic. So, I've stayed away from that one. The prices have dropped on the deep impact, so I just ordered one. They're going for $139 mail order off of the internet. If you do a search of this forum for deep impact, you'll be able to find the post with someone's sound samples. I've also heard one live, and they sound great.
I've tried the Boss and the EH and IMO the Akai blows them away! Great sounds, plenty of scope for tone-twisting, true bypass, stores 9 different settings, and tracks extremely well (especially if you put a compressor before it). It also makes a mighty fine octaver. Alex
If cost is an issue, you can probably find a Boss Syb-3 used for $100 to $130 on www.musicgoround.com or ebay. I purchased a used one last year for $100. It is very rare that you can find the Akai Deep Impact used and it is almost the same price as a new one when you do. The new digitech synth pedal sounds decent also.
I ordered a Deep Impact from Zzounds and it got here in less than 3 days (New Jersey to Hawaii!). Looking forward to doing some funky sh*t.
Tried everyone I could get my hands on. Hated most of them. The AKAI was far and above the best for tracking, sounds, and programability. The only one I loved (and bought).
