Best Use of Clapping!!

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous [BG]' started by MikeyFingers, Dec 5, 2005.

  1. Personally, I love when a good song is made better with the simplest form of music known to man: Hand claps (and they can come in handy if you're too lazy to walk all the way to the light switch)
Post some songs that you think make the best use of hand-clapping. Here's mine:

    Weather Report--Birdland"
Queen--"Find Me Somebody to Love" (a little hard to hear, but it comes in at about 3:00)
    King Crimson--"One More Red Nightmare"

I know there's a lot more, but I can't think of them right now. CLAP CLAP

I once heard this comedian gal who played a really nervous country singer, and she starts playing this bouncy country song on guitar, and the audience starts clapping along with it, and she suddenly stops playing and with all seriousness she says, "I'm sorry but it really throws me off when you all clap along like that." I laughed so hard I got a stomach ache!

There's a tune on Mingus "Ah Um" which has some really great clapping on it ...can't think of the title offhand?

Tons of hip hop beats and R&B tunes use clapping on the snare hits. Both live and fake, it produces a great effect. In particular, D'angelo's album 'voodoo' and both of Dwele's albums have many cuts using this. Fat jon uses clapping a fair amount, as do many others, it's fairly common place.

Steve reich has some excellent clapping in many of his compositions, notably: Clapping music and Tehillim.

The clapping in 'spain' always made me smile.

Flamenco music has some very neat rhythmic clapping that moves the music as much as anything else. There is actually a defined rhythmic theory behind the clapping in flamenco music, all I know is it's very syncopated.

and of course... hey mickey you're so fine

One of the Muse songs off the new album has some cool clapping in it. I think it's called "our time is running out." There's a synth bass line in 8th notes with finger snaps on 2 and claps on 4. It's a pretty cool effect.

  8. King Crimson - One More Red Nightmare

Great hand claps on the outro of "Birdland" on the Heavy Weather album. Love that Jaco!

I hate when the audience starts clapping, it wouldn't be so bad if they could clap on the beat, but that is almost never the case.
