  3. One of my friends just got a Schecter for around $600 thats got a lot of the sounds as the MM HH, but it has a smaller body and not as meaty a sound, but a great bass for that kind of money.

With Barts you're going to get their flavour, not the Musicman sound.

Seriously, in my experience, the only 2 basses that sound like a Stingray are a Stingray and an ATK. The ATKs have a smoother top end, and a little less drive to the sound. To my ears. Barts not really close in any of the basses I have heard with them.

Used ATK 700 on ebay $400-500.

I could never get my L-2000 to sound like a Ray. Not really even close. All the J and P sounds were pretty close, but not the Ray.

You can get very close with a Cort GB-75. I was amazed at how good my Cort sounded side by side with some very high end basses today at the St. Louis GTG. Anyone who heard it today will tell you that it doesn't sound like a budgetbass at all.
  15. I was playing a Mike Dirnt Fender today that was nice...heavy and well made.

Fender used to own this price range before their latest price hike.

The Peavey Zodiac DE looks like a nice P/J for under $700
