Best way to record effects

    Hello, I was thinking and trying to figure out how to get my effects in real time on my bass, I just simply record with my computer and plug the bass in the mic jack and record I call this the poor mans recorder lol... anyway is there any type of software i can download for effects on my computer, I would really apprecheate some suggestions thanks.

    I used to run my bass into my SWR SM900 amp head, FXs send into RIGHT channel of my sound card (you might have a stereo LINE IN) and then took a signal from the Tuner Out on the amp, ran it through whatever FXs I wanted and then into the LEFT channel of the sound card.

    I'm not sure if that's what you were looking for but I hope it helps.
