Best way to upgrade an old bass.

  1. I posted this earlier at the end of survey but thought I'd get more response by starting a thread.

I am currently playing a '69 Gibson LP1 and can't take the weight any more. I chose to get a '63 re-issue of the Hofner violin bass; one, due to the light weight and two, due to the short scale neck, because I can use only three fingers on my fretting hand. I see from prior posts that roundwound's will help with the clarity, what about pickup replacements?
  2. Do I take it from the lack of replies that; 1. no one would update the pickups or 2. that no one knows what to do or 3.
I was stupid to buy it in the first place because there are better short scale neck guitars available.

Updating the pickups would help with the clarity, rounds might help, but i'd say new rounds. Hofners are pretty good short scales, you didn't go wrong.
