Two reasons to delete this thread:

    1) You posted in the wrong forum. (edit: not anymore :) )
    2) You'll get as many answers as there are people here, all with their own opinion.

Search the forum for words on these basses, you'll find good and bad words about both of them.

Apples and oranges -- they're not directly comparable. If you WERE to do it anyway, you should compare a Jazz vs. a Sterling and a Precision vs. a Stingray, as they share neck characteristics (if not much else).

If you're looking for a J-bass sound, the J Deluxe is better. But the Stingray is measurably better in fit, finish and construction.

Leaving out the obvious "what type of music do you play" and "apples and oranges" comparisons, and all that I'd have to say that the Stingray has a considerably better build quality.

IMO, YMMV, and all that caveat stuff.
  11. I own (and love) a US jazz bass, but I would have to agree that the MM basses are generally better in terms of fit and finish. The more recent fenders have been improving though.
