way ahead of you buddy ;)
  2. darn you! im gonna make some mac viruses just for you :D

on topic: good thing im still in win 98 ;)
  3. I'm coming out of retirement to say this:

That worm is a bitch when you get it. I got it last night. I'm reformatting and installing XP tomorrow. It's pretty much killed my computer. It crashed svchost.exe (I'm not sure which instance of it though), which renders my computer useless. It messed with the registry, etc.

I haven't looked at the above link, because the failed svchost file won't let me. But, just do a file search on your computer for "msblast.exe". If you have it, uh-oh.

    Nomadic Herder,

I think you must be making the worm much worse than it appears, or you simply have another virus besides the MSBlaster worm. According to everything I've read, it is nothing more than a pest. It doesn't actually "infect" your computer, it simply attaches itself and starts sending itself out to other computers around the net. There are patches for it available. has information about it, and links to removal programs and Windows patches. Reformatting and reinstalling seems to be going a little bit too far the best I understand...

Well fellas just got rid of it tonight. The biggest symptom for me was the computer would count down shut down then of course shut down.
I believe this was it, because a lot of my friends also had the problem. MY computer wouldn't stay online for longer then 5 minutes without shutting down.

SO here is the vaciene, aka the patch, direct from god himself, aka microsoft.

I just got rid of it tonight. I had to edit the registry, download and install that security patch, and run an antivirus. It was a real pain in the ass. Whenever I had my ethernet cable plugged in, the computer would display that 1 minute countdown and then shut down. I think its gone now...I hope!

    1. Disable the auto shut-down so you have time to fix your computer:

    start | run | services.msc
right-click Remote Procedure Call, select properties.
    Click the recovery tab.
Change first failure to 'take no action'

    2. Install the MS patch

    * If you're running Windows 2000, install this patch:

    * If you're running Windows XP, download and install this patch:

    3. Run a virus scan. I found not only the MSBlast worm, but something called SdBot.worm.gen -- in iexploree.exe and wu.exe.

There's a free online program here:

that will clean those two up.

I also turned off File and Print Sharing, which was bound to TCP/IP, and because of which my port 135 was open. That's the port the worm uses - if you install the patch it's no longer susceptible, but I had no reason to have it open anyway.
  9. I wanna download a movie off of kazaa(not porn :ninja:)

is it safe for me to download or what?

What exactly did you experience? was it similar to what myself and Heavy Duty described? :/

    Cheers :D
  14. Actually I had the worm that Johnalex and hunter585 were speaking of. PC shutting down randomly and such. But it's better now. That patch and disabling the auto restart did it. Also use the scanning program Geshel listed. It'll find it and delete it for you.
  15. My dad just called from work, and their computers got hit with it! Over 11,000 computers in his work alone got hit, plus some in Illinoise (sp??) at the other plant for the company he works for. That aint good at all!

I got that stinger file and it bagged 'msblaster'.

Sadly, it shreiks that awful 'DUNN' noise at me when I click 'OK', saying that the file coudnt be repaired, or accessed.

    Any further help? :(

Will deleting the file 'msblast.exe' from 'system32' folder (found from virus scanner) delete any problems?

Edit: soory about the filename, I forgot it displays as what it's saved as rather than a random number.

It about sums up the thing though. It's creator too.

Yeah you definitely don't want that file. Delete it. Also you need to take some things out of your registry and apply the latest patches for it. It's a pain in the butt but it allows me to afford my basses as well ;).
