what does it mean when amps are bi amped liek the gk 800rb. ive seen these for pretty cheap and i might get one if its good. can they get to sound anything like an ampeg svt can. i play mostly stuff u guys would hate lol like pop-punk or just poppy rock, just fun music. i also like punk though like nofx and rancid. but the bass sounds are pretty simaliar in all those kinds of bands. thanks.

  2. I can't comment on the SVT sound, but I can tell you that
bi-amping is simply splitting up your signal into Lows and Highs.
The lows are sent to one speaker, and the highs to another.

I ran a bi-amped rig for many years, and only recently have
discovered the great possibilities of running "full range".
(in other words, NOT splitting the signal)

Like most people would tell you around here, try it out and see
if you like the sound of it. That's really the most important thing.

    Good luck.

A GK won't sound like an SVT.

    Very different sounds.

They are about as different as you can possibly get. If you want an SVTish sound get some kind of tube preamp like the Sansamp or the BBE T-Max. Or if you really want to biamp look for a used SVT4, which has an onboard crossover and a tube preamp with a nice growly ampeg sound.
