I'm a fan of a lot of styles of music, but one of my favorite styles, heavy metal, particularily Megadeth, Razor, Cannibal Corpse, Nuclear Assault, Slayer, etc., doesn't really have a lot of distinguished basses. Sure, there's the classic Rickenbacker, and a bunch of Ibanezes and Carvins, but I'm looking for a more diverse bass. A lot of the dean or Ibanez designs are really cool, but they are really low quality. I'm looking for a bass with a big, crazy looking body (and preferrably a big headstock) that actually plays good. I'd like a retro design, like a Mockingbird or a Flying V (which I actually saw at Guitar Center chicago, but it was an Epi), not a Carvin or other basses popular in today's mutations of classic 80's heavy metal.

I was going to say gibson anything, the body on a ripper/grabber is massive.

It's big and gorgeous tone, but not only for heavy music.
