    Howdie~

I just got delivered a beautiful MIJ Fender Jazz bass 75 RI
    made in 1994~1995..

I have been inspecting and testing and found that

Not touching any strings, when my finger makes contact with the lowest magnet of the neck pickup..
    It makes a significant noise..

The Pups balance was 50:50, so that is not the
    hum-cancelling issue.

Bridge pickup I did the same thing, but not that bad...
But the Lowest magnet outta 8 on the neck pickup does it?

I used a CIJ 75 RI for 5 years, but never noticed this..

Is this a normal Single Coil Pup noise?
Think I should see Luthier for this?

    :help:

BTW is the body Basswood or Alder or Ash? :smug:

    SNC00356.

i don't know much about the particular model you have, but the noise could be from the pickup windings have shorted against the magnet. Try connecting a temporary ground wire to the pickup pole, and if the sounds cuts out when playing that string and the wire touching the metal parts, you have a shorted pickup winding. A multi ohm meter should confirm that.
Otherwise the metal parts of the pickups might need grounding.

Don't freak out. There most likely isn't a shorted winding. My money is on the grounding. It's a common issue. The magnets aren't grounded. Some people have a problem hitting the poles, some don't. It never gives me a problem, so I never bother with it.

I'm going to say it looks more like alder, to me.
