I've heard that this guy is one of the best rock bassists ever. I know he uses this crazy custon Yamaha, and I was just wondering if there are any of his CD's that I should look into. Always lookin' for somethin new
Hi! Billy Sheehan is one of my bass heroes. He played in a band called Mr Big. If you want to hear great, groovy, technical playing. You should check out all Mr Big albums. (Specially the first three albums: Mr Big, Lean into it and Bump ahead.) Happy listening! Andreas
Sheehan's also played with a jazz-fusion organ trio called Niacin. They've recorded three albums to date, I think. Sheehan's also got a solo record called "Compression" that should be out soon on Steve Vai's Favored Nations label; the two know each other from their David Lee Roth days.
I currently have a guitar player mag on ebay that is all about him from, the 80s! Go check it out and bid!
If you want to hear Billy play. Check out- Billy Sheehan: The Talas Years. Mr. Big & The David Lee Roth stuff are great, But Talas is where it really started.
Billy Sheehan has made a two video set of his instruction advice with Wolf Marshall as interviewer. One can learn a lot about Sheehan, get to see his personality and pick up a few hints, especially on tapping and string bending. These videos were available in the early nineties, but may not be easily found now. Check E-Bay. You might even get them at a bargain price.
There's a Bass Day 97 video featuring Billy. Great clinic with tons of cool anecdotes and bass playing. DCI Video VH 0378
Does anyone know what he's currently up to??? I know he mentioned touring behind Compression, that would be killer! As would a Niacin tour. But since G3's over, I've not heard anything. Anyone with any insight please advise!
I got an Email from him saying he'll probably tour again when he's finished recording a few things. Incidently, he RULES. I have his solo record Compression and it's real good. Only 1 bass solo, would you believe it? Its not what I expected from him at all (it actually has nice songs with lyrics) but its still good. Plus he played one of the guitar breaks on it with a danelectro which i find endlessly cool for some reason .
that album is amazing. theres a website somewhere where u can get heaps of samples, they are excelent
Billy Sheehan is a huge influence for me. Pick up Compression, the Naicin albums, the Talas years, all great work.
