I want to get some feedback from all of you on using birdseye maple for a fingerboard on a plain no figured top bass , do figured fingerboards only look good with basses with a figured cap on it?.Thanks

If I could find the TalkBass gallery (offline?), I'd link an image of my black Sadowsky P5 that has a birdseye board. But then, you all have seen that many times already.... :smug:

Anyway, I love that look, even though someone occasionally says "spill some coffee on your bass?"

I think it can look quite nice, w/ just a paint body... especially of the figuring on the FB is 5A... BUT, you GOTTA go painted headstock to match the body!

Actually the idea i have would be alot like the combo you have James, a Birdseye fingerboard with a Ash body and a burst finish

  7. Here is my Warrior Signature 4. It is mahogany/purpleheart/mahogany neck through, with swamp ash wings, covered in teal!?!?!? The birdseye board is great. It's hard to get a really good picture of it, but here are a couple.

I'm with James.. birdseye boards go with everything.

My SR5 has one and it looks really nice with the transluscent blueburst finish.

I think birdseye FB's go great with burst finishes and especially burst over Ash. I bet that will look awesome.

I recently took these shots of my three (current) Skjolds. The silver one is an early Stage model from Pete, and it has a beautiful (and thick!) birdseye maple fingerboard (though it didn't photograph as well as I had hoped):
