I wear them no exaggeration every single day. I would go to work with them if they let me. In about 2 seasons the bottom is wearing out and the cork is all black. Yet they claim these things last decades. I just don't see it. If you wear any shoe as much as I am wearing the Birks the bottom will smooth out. What is with all this hype they will last decades. Thoughts?

You can replace the bottoms quite a few times, that's always been one of the big selling points and that's how you get a decade + out of a pair.

Two seasons worth of use isn't bad for any pair of shoes you're wearing every day.

My work shoes are low-top Doc Martins, and the previous pair lasted eight years.

That's funny for I was a Croc's man but then switched to Birks.

You're not supposed to wear Birks on, like, pavement and stuff, man. That's so, like, uncool. Birks are for walking organically, man. Like, on the grass and stuff, ya know??

Are you a swinger or a dogger then? :D
  15. Buy two pairs and alternate them each day. If you wear any shoes daily it wears faster because it’s not given a proper chance to dry out between wears.

Do you have oily skin or sweat a lot? That’ll punish the suede topper that is turning black.

How (& how often) do you clean them?

I've got my grandfather's axe. It has a new blade, and the handle has been replaced twice, but it's the axe that my grandfather cleared the north woods with. ;)

I've used an adhesive called "amazing goop" to repair the soles and cork of old Birkies, along with imitation Birkies that I got somewhere. So far as I can tell, it's the same stuff as "shoe goo" but comes in a larger quantity for a lower price. In fact I just rebuilt a pair for my spouse and she's quite pleased with the results.

Flip Flops are where it's at. Nice ones, not them rubber jailhouse ones. I wear em almost exclusively for half the year. Buy em at the end of summer when they're nearly giving them away. Rotate 3 or 4 pair thru the season.
