I've got a bass with black hardware and black knobs, and am installing an Audere preamp that has a chrome mini toggle switch. I also want to have individual series/single/parallel switches for the pups - three switches total. Do chrome switches look okay with black hardware or should I go with black? The preamp comes with a chrome switch and I can source on/on/on chrome switches locally for about $5 each. If I go with black switches I have to buy them online and it's going to run me $40 for all three. What would you do?
The difference in cost says it all. But yeah, IMO chrome switches are OK with black hardware. They're submini ones, yes? Those are quite small anyway.
Black hardware isn't what I'm normally into, but I'd spring for the black switches if you can so that it will match. I've heard that once you go with black switchgear you never go back...
It'll be looking OK, but not very well. Or was it looking very nice but not very good ... ~ Barry Manilow
If the switches don't match the hardware, it's going to look tacky. You can do black switches on chrome or gold, but if the hardware is black, chrome is totally out of place.
I'm definitely going with black switches - now it's just a question of how many. I was thinking of series/single/parallel switches for each pup in addition to the z-mode switch on the Audere. I had read that series doesn't get along with low-z mode and parallel sounds huge, but these are SGD Neo's. David tells me that series should work just fine since he doesn't overwimd his pups like other makers. I might just go with a shared series/single switch besides the z-mode switch.
Do these shoes go well with this shirt? Chrome and black is a classic combination, why mess with a good thing?
