Black strings

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by Saint Michael, Dec 25, 2003.

  1. What are the differences between black coated strings and tapewound strings? What do they do for the tone and are there any advantages? Is there anyone here that uses them on a fretted bass with an ebony fingerboard? Thanks.

  2. I use the Dean Markley 2694 SR2000 (Will Lee) on one of my 5 strings, they are tapered and black coated.

    Gauges 47-67-87-107-127.

These strings are the best I have found for keeping the B string more solid. Due to being tapered. YMMV.

I've have not tried them on my fretless though, so I can't give you an opinion.

I'm sure others can and will help you though!
