I hope Ari won't mind me posting this but he recently recorded some clips with his basses and posted them on "the french talkbass" as a blind test. Some Tbers already had the chance to play cause I Pm'ed them but I can't wait to share it with everybody... I love this game !

Here are the basses...all recorded direct into the sound card:

Tulipwood body, burl maple top, wenge neck and board. Recorded with bass and low medium boost, slight treble boost.

Bubinga body, wenge neck and board. recorded with almost full bass boost and some treble boost.

Hollow alder body with padauk top and back, flammed maple/wenge neck with mac ebony board. recorded with slight bass boost.

Ash body with quilted maple top, maple neck and fretboard. Recorderd with 50% bass and treble boost.

Now here are 4 sound clips, fingerstyle groove. Can you find which clip belongs to each bass???

    clip 1
    clip 2
    clip 3
    clip 4

Be sure to tell wich clip you prefer too...should be fun when we give the results.

    Enjoy!

    Peace, JP

PS: Ari will probably record some more clips with a slap groove.

PS2: Mike, you can't play on that one !

Hehe... thanks for making the post JP. I have just a few corrections:

The mids boosted on the MTD were the hi-mids (switch in top position)

I think the bass frequency on the singlecut was boosted to 50-60% (after the centre click).

    More clips to follow...

    Ari

EDIT: Please note that for each bass, pan pot is at center: 50% bridge pickup, 50% neck pickup.

EDIT 2: Strings are fresh Sadowsky Stainless steel (045-128). On the JP Singlecut they are DR lo-riders 045-125.

    Bump!

    44 views and no reply???

It would be nice if a mod could edit the thread title to:

"MTD, SADOWSKY, JP and WARWICK sound clips"

It sure would get more attention.

    Peace, JP

I'll take a crack at it. I'm probably way off base on this though since I have'nt heard many recordings or ever have played on any of the above outside of the Warwick. I'd say-
    1.Warwick
    2.MTD
    3.Sadowsky
    4.JP Custom

    I tend to feel number 3 sounds the strongest of the 3. How'd I do? ;)

Same here, I'll have to wait till I get home, from work... hopefully by then, The answers would be there and I could just consentrate on listening to the tone of the JP SC... That's the one I'm interested in listening too.

ok. I haven`t read any posts in this thread besides the first one... my guess it:

    clip2 - sadowsky
    clip4 - warwick
    clip3 - JP
    clip1 - MTD

I`m probably totally off, since I haven`t played any of those basses. To be honest I haven`t played only few basses in my life, and the bigger half were low-end begginer models:(

ps. - clips 2 and 3 are my choices, but If I had to choose, i would pick 3. is it your bass JP?:)
