Has anyone ever used this? Is it helpful? It looks pretty good and I think it might be exactly what I didn't know I was looking for :). It comes with a cd, too.

Are there any other similar books that anyone can recommend? I'd prefer exercise type stuff over books that transcribe riffs or grooves, I guess.

    Thanks

I thought about getting that book a few years back...guess I forgot.
Anyway, I sampled the 1st soundbite; it does not sound like an etude, per se. That is, maybe the sax part is...the rhythm section part, no.
    Nevertheless, it does sound great.

    Something similar(maybe)-
Funkifying The Clave For Bass/Drums by Lincoln Goines/Robbie Ammeen.
    There's "exercise-type stuff" + tunes(roughly the same quality of the Mintzer tune-age...but in a Latin-Funk).
