Bootzillas and Dull Tone???

Some background - One of my guitarists put Elixir COATED (long-life) strings on his Les Paul about a year ago and a couple of us commented that his tone seemed duller in comparison to his usual roundwounds.

Being one who likes to try new strings, I was thinking of ordering some DR Bootzillas (Bootsy Collins Signatures). DR describes them as "crunchy and COATED."

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has tried coated bass strings AND is familiar with the presence and "piano zing" of good stainless steel strings on the subject.

"Crunchy and Coated" sounds like a description of Cereal like Frosted Flakes.

Hey rickbass...I doubt that anyone has tried these yet. I was thinkin' about trying the Black Beauties. For what it's worth, I like the coated DR acoustic strings on my gui***.
