Boss SYB-3

  1. I'm thinking of buying a Boss SYB-3 bass synthesizer..

I already have a Boss Bass-chorus and a Boss bass-overdrive, and both are great pedals. the reviews on the SYB-3 are pretty positive, but i'd like to hear your opinion instead ( reviews on harmony-central are not very neutral )

Does any of you have experience with it ? what's it like ? what kind of sounds does it make ?

  2. Well it's missing a few good features, like an LFO but you can buy a Boss tremolo to really get those great classic bass synth sounds. It's a bit frustrating to get the hang of it and takes a little tweaking to get a sound you might like. The two line outs are a nice feature but not many bass amps have two stereo inputs or stereo effects loops, so you would have to buy an A/B box to get the most from the pedal. It's sound is very sterile and lacks the really corpulent sounds of the higher priced pedals, but It's sound is very good for the lower price, Plus its headroom is better fit for a guitar.

IMO, you should try it out and see how you like it.

  3. Which one are you suggesting ?

so basicly you're trying to say that the syb-3 is nice, but lacks some low-end ?

  4. I'm saying it doesn't track low notes very well, I really didn't like it but I have diffent taste.

I had one for a while, and it was fun, but once the new-ness of it wore off, I really didn't use it too much. But, the flip side to that is that I really didn't find much of a use for it musically in what I do, which is rock/metal. I would say go play one at the store, and really play with it enough to hack of the salesmen... and then figure out if it's what you want. I have sense gotten rid of mine...

I have one, one of those things where it sounds really cool (to me) stand alone, but in a song it doesn't track well, hard to get the mix right with the rest of hte band. I got mine for about 180$, for about 250$ you can get a pod fm4 which I think does a better job, judging from hearing another bassist play through one at guitar center.
