    hi-
i totally dig that vintage hollow body sound
ive been looking for a fender coronado or something similar, but there impossible to find

so i was wondering if any luthiers build custom hollow body basses

i know theres not as much to customize as on a solid body but id really like it to meet my specifications

    thanks

Not on the vintage or for the faint at heart, the Dingwall Afterburner II (AB II) has a chambered body and is IMHO boutique

You could try ToneSmith. Fender styled basses with a semi-hollow body. My 320 5 string is more symetrical than a Fender, has a bit of neck dive, and sounds pretty good. Kevin makes a pretty decent instrument for the money.

Well, the Lakland HB may not qualify for "boutique," but it's very nice.

Micheal Dolan built something very nice for Major Metal.

  12. If chambered is allowed, I have lots of fun playing the Rob Allen basses. Hollow is cool, but I've found a lot of them to be unbalanced.

I use the Lakland HB and it delivers everything a Hollowbody should. I use it on Jazz tunes to get that uprightish sound.
I does have a vintage sound IMO.
