Bought gf Pino Palladino, I mean John Mayer tix 'for her birthday'

So I've been strategically playing John Mayer Trio tracks when the girlfriend is around for the past few months...She's found herself loving the music and on a bit of a kick. Then, engage looking up tour dates together (where there just happens to be a stop in town right near her birthday) and boom! Get to see one of my idols play and killed it on the birthday gift this year.

Anybody else been to any of the tour shows this year?

Pino was with him confirmed on 6/26, which is the same tour. Besides, this is a JMTrio album release tour - I don't think they'd switch the one of the trio halfway through a tour. We'll see!

My wife did it for me. We're seeing Tedeschi Trucks, Wood Brothers and Hot Tuna tonight at a small amphitheater (Red Hat) in the middle of Raleigh with a hotel room so close I will be able to see our great seats from the window. That's my birthday present.

Oh it's a great place to see a show! We have only been to a few. But we indulge ourselves when we do and get a room within walking distance so we can grab dinner and a couple beers with no worries. It's a really expensive night so we do one every year or so. Boston killed there a couple years ago. Cross your fingers for me. Rain is supposed to move in about time the show is drawing to an end. First world problems, but good weather would be nice.

Bound to be an amazing show. I've seen both TD Band and Wood bros numerous times and it's always something special.

We saw it a few months ago. I was surprised that Pino played for the entire gig - not just the trio part. My wife was surprised I didn't buy a Pino bass the next day. I've been talking about a P for a while. She love's Pinos sound.

On a related note to the OP, I'm currently engaging in similar subterfuge with my current squeeze and the band Future Islands ... been spinning their recs quite a bit, and my new lady is now a fan. They're coming to town on her birthday in September! Problem is they sold out within 2 hours Now I'm hoping they release a batch of last minute tickets, or I'll have to pay StubHub prices ($89 instead of under 30 face value! Scalper/broker scum )
