I was surprised to find it still available, but I just bought the Bongo that Bass NW had on their web site. I couldn't resist the 4-band, 18-volt preamp and the TWO humbucker pickups. It reminds me of my old Sabre! According to Evan (Bass NW), it's a very well built instrument. It weighs in around 9.5 pounds. It should be heading out tomorrow! I'll shoot out a review after it arrives. Could this be the first Bongo in the public's hands????
Its well built but thats about the only thing I'm willing to say about it. I've played that one. Sounds good, looks horrible. One out weighed the other for me. It might be the first in public hands, lets hope its the last . Enjoy though. Its a great sounding bass .
Sorry, but TB'er/pitter/musicman extrordinaire Bovine host bought his a few days ago....there was a post here on it somewhere.
Thanks for the comments! Yeah - I know the looks may take a little getting used to, but you're talking to someone who almost owned a Parker Fly Bass! I'll see what I can do about some sound clips. Yeah, I know about Bovine's order! See, I'm not alone! There are a few brave souls who have taken the Bongo plunge! It will be interesting to see how well these do. Hey, if they flop, maybe I'll end up with a rare, collector's bass! I have to admit, I was hoping for a re-issue of the Sabre bass! I am really surprised that hasn't happened yet!
Congrats! I think you've made a fine choice! And you might just have yours long before I have mine. So technically, you win. *pounding fist on desk* I ordered a 5er with the 2HH setup and they haven't yet seen it at beautiful downtown Bass Central....so I'll be waiting on your report, too!
OH Man, I'd love to be able to see Joe Nerve's face when he reads this. He's going to go into a jealous rage of immesurable poportions Congratulations. Please post as much info as possible.........
Bovine - thanks for the concession, but it was your bold move in ordering a Bongo that assisted in my decision to go ahead and buy this Bongo! I've read your threads for a long time in the Pit! You are definately "DA MAN!" While the gold wouldn't have been my first color choice, I still like it! I am REAL CURIOUS about the 4-band EQ! Thanks for the comments, Tumbao and Petebass!
And the 18v preamp - and it has some kind of compensating nut setup that is supposed to result in better intonation up and down the neck. That desert gold color was truly my FIRST choice, but Gard said no 5ers in that color were coming until the end of November, and well, you know. Can't wait to hear the first hand reports!
I'm surprised you find it surprising that they're still available. In all seriousness, congrats. I second the request for soundclips, so much have been said about its look and design, it'll be a refreshing change to judge the bass based on the tones it can produce.
Ahhh yes...brave souls indeed but I bought a Spalt Matrix so I think I still hold the record for the biggest ballz.
I supported you on that Spalt. I heard it sounded great and that it was going to be used to kill someone in an action movie - I read where it was to be thrown like one of those little scary king-fu star thingies, but then another manufacturer, I think it was Rickenbacker, offered big bucks and got a 4001 into the movie, and someone was beaten to death with the Ric, but then the whole project was shelved because someone collapsed under the weight of a Kramer DMZ6000B. Anyway, I liked that Spalt.
Oh, you'll all be sorry you mocked me when I wield my Bongo, slashing and burning like a Republican Administration in an Alaskan wilderness! I'll be more powerful than Lou Ferrigno! And cuter, too!
LOL...whatever Jack...we all know you only bought that fugly thing so you can be the only schmuck to own one (errr second one) just like that pee-yeller MM5 you had.
Now wouldn't you like to sniff this ugly bass? <IMG SRC="http://www.bovinehost.com/pit/kassheinz2.jpg">
