First I'll repeat the #1 newbie bowing tip on all time "get an instructor". My own contribution to the world of tips for newbie bowers is to simply get a bow quiver. I have found that having a quiver keeps the bow right in front of me so I can't help but pick the bow up for at least for a few minutes every time I touch the bass. I'm not terribly disciplined at practicing with the bow, so having the bow in an irresistible location has increased my bowing time. A side benefit is that it makes my bass look even cooler!
