Hi, I bought a used Precision last year that I love.

It has a brass (I believe it to be brass but could be wrong) pole type piece just above the nut that the strings slide under before hitting the nut. I have looked for these in order to simply (a) get info about it (why is it there, on what models/years/etc or is it an aftermarket kinda thing) and (b) find where I can buy another one for my other bass.

Can anyone give me any information about this?

    Thanks

I haven't seen any like you describe, except on Fender 5 strings.
