I'm new to the board by the way. I wanted to see if anyone else has ever broken an E string during a set? It was pretty sad. Am I alone on this one? http://www.mp3.com/leftundone
I use to break the E string (as well as the others) when I was in high school. I pounded like crazy on the bass because I had bad technique and an underpowered amp. Now, I have a lighter touch and rarely break a string. When I do, it's because the bridge gets sharp and breaks my string. To fix the problem I just use some fine sandpaper and it's as good as new. Plus I change my strings every 3 or 4 months.
I never broke a string until last week. Blew the A right off. I play really hard and it was the third show on the set.
Breaking that "E" string was a very crazy thing. I was using my old Ibanez bass & I played very hard on that thing. I've never broken a string on my G & L in the past 5 years, which is crazy because I've played over 400 shows since I first bought it. http://www.mp3.com/leftundone
ive never really played that hard. only times ive broken an E string are back when i didnt know what i was doing when tuning a bass, and when i threw my bass up against a bunch of cardboard, thinking nothing would break. Instead, i broke 3 of my strings and pushed the pickups in so far that the screws and springs broke inside.
That's funny about the cardboard man. I just posted a pretty good story of a show up here if you get board. it's at http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=915422#post915422 Seanhttp://www.mp3.com/leftundone
Blew an E string during the first song of a big concert in front of about 1,000 people...On a Steinberger XL-2. That's the ONLY bass I have ever broke strings on (probably about 6 total with that thing...).
Sobie, I hear you man, I broke mine in front of 1500 people watching & another few 1000 listening. I don't use that bass anymore. Sean http://www.mp3.com/leftundone
I have never broke a string. I would like to see someone do it though, just as I think that would be hilarious.
i can't believe there are people who have never broken strings. i pop one once every few months and i play light. but that's why i have the raven labs box. turn off channel one, pick up the thumb, turn on channel 2, and i'm ready to go.
Jason, What's happening? I haven't broken a string since 1999. I use to use Medium Lights, then I changed to Mediums + my bass is from the early 80's. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. I hate breaking strings. It messes up the flow of the show. I just checked out your band Bon Pantalon. Do you guys ever play anymore? http://www.mp3.com/leftundone
