You might scan the Essex Megathread as those are sold by Kurt at Rondo Music, just like the Essex line...I don't know wether there have been any coments on that particular Brice model, but I do know the Brice basses have been discused in that Megathread.
FWIW - my gut tells me that fretless Brice is probably a pretty good bass for the price.

  3. That specific bass is, in fact, being sold by Kurt from Rondo Music. They sell through Ebay fairly often.

Go to www.rondomusic.bigstep.com for more details.

  4. It's the same price on eBay, and positive feedback is always a good thing, so I order through there :D

I really didn't feel like reading that whole thread but what I got from it was that they make good quality instruments for cheap. is that pretty much a good description of them?

That's about the size of it. Downside to the Brice models is that I'm not sure if they're as easily upgradable. With the Essex fender clones you could slap on a basass II and a basslines pickup and have a damned good bass.

Is that possible with the Essex? I'm always wary of cheap active electronics...

But hey -- if you want a fretless 6 for $275, how many options do you have? :D

true. it is tempting. im gonna have to wait on this one though. look around and see if I can pick up a better deal as im really wary of getting an active, fretless, sixer for that cheap new. I can get one of these anytime it would seem. and until I saw that I had readied myself for a year or two wait till I get another bass. though I was also planning on spending around $1500 as well. I think I will stick with that plan as I think I will ultimately be happier with a better bass.

    Brice is Essex essentially.

    Supposedly

    Essex is to Squire as
    Brice is to Fender.

    Or so i'm told.

  9. I have one of these Brice 5 string Fretless.

Pluses: Cost (definite factor if you are just starting to play fretless / way of life..grin), and the construction is beautiful. Think it's made
in Korea, straight neck....no complaint there.

Negatives: only 1 actually....I wish it came with pick ups. It comes with 2 'j' pickups, tone is too much in your face. Am still playing with the settings can't get really good tone from it. Though 'fretless' should have somewhat good presence, and more 'mid' capability to give it that smooth growl. These pickups that come with the Brice....seems to pick up a lot of ..or should I say more fret noise or something.

If I could change the pickups....think maybe I would be happier. Am searching for decent pickups.....actually the reason I found this thread.

    My 2 cents...

    Aloha all....bass palyers unite!

  10. Ive read that the Brices are very nice basses and at a really good price. I got an SX BG205 (Kurt from RondoMusic sells em) and I love it to death :D And it was only $143 (that includes shipping). I think on the Megathread most people like it (I havent gone through it in a while) and think they are nice basses.
