So in the middle of a concert yesterday afternoon, there's a loud BANG and I nearly lose a finger. My bridge is on the floor. Never had this happen before, I don't know why it happened today. All the strings are intact, sound post still in place and while the bridge was in three pieces on the floor, they were pieces that naturally came apart (courtesy of the adjusters). There's a not terribly interesting photo of the aftermath at http://don.dream-in-color.net/music/diary.php4 It appears like it should be a simple enough repair. I don't even need to spend a lot of time figuring out where the bridge goes courtesy of my Realist pickup. (although I suddenly wonder whether I might have ended up losing a piece of the pickup... hmmm) -dh
OUCH! I remember somebody (reedo maybe??) having a post about this a few months ago. It sounds bizarre, but apparently not as rare as you might think - my old teacher told a story just like it last year, only his soundpost didn't stay put. I was lucky..when I noticed my bridge starting to lean, I started a thread on the subject, and some of the regulars here helped me fix the problem before my bass exploded. Best of luck.
