I have a Fender Aerodyne bass which I love except the bridge pickup is noisy. Ironically, I rarely use the neck pick-up, which make no noise. I don't think it's damaged as I have read two reviews that reported the same problem.

I'm contemplating replacing it with a Seymour Duncan but I'd to find out that is not the problem.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

  2. It's normal. A single coil pickup produces hum. The neck pickup on your bass is a humbucker, or "hum-cancelling pickup".

You may want to replace your bridge pickup with a stacked-coil humbucker, which will fit in the standard single coil cavity.
