I after breaking another string last night i noticed some grooves in the D-string saddle where the string sits. Im pretty sure thats why the string broke plus i broke another D string a couple months ago. So i have 3 options.

1.) Try putting graphite to fill the grooves(can only work for so long i tried this last time string broke a couple months later)

2.) new bridge(i saw a gotoh for $30 on warmoth)

3.) new saddle(have no idea how much they will cost and my local shops don't carry them)

I've had that problem on some guitars where the bridge saddles had a sharp burr and the string would frequently break at that point.

Only once on a bass though, on the G string.

I solved the problem by smoothing out the burr with 600 grit wet or dry sandpaper. No problem after that.
