Hi, everybody. I had an odd thing happen today right in the middle of practice. In the middle of playing, I heard my G going flat -nasty and quickly. I stopped, grabbed a tuner, and I was at an F#. I tuned back up and started again. By halfway through (Saint-Sens' Elephant from Carnival), I was flat again, and at a solid Fnat. This time, turning the string up didn't do anything, and it actually started going flat mid-wind, so I stopped turning. I took the string completely off and inspected it. I couldn't see anything but a bit of missing silk at the pegbox end. When I put it back on, it seemed to wind to tension, but I didn't have time to test it out before I had to run to class. I got it to hold a G and pizzed around on it for about 45 seconds. For reference, I play a Merano (CCB that's had some setup work) strung with Helicore Orchestra Mediums. Been wanting to replace, but a college budget makes it hard to do. Did the string break or is something else happening? If latter, does anybody know what?
