This Sunday, April 15th, is the Brookdale Guitar Show, at Brookdale Community College, Lincroft, NJ. The event starts at 10 AM and goes all day. I will be leading a panel on the history of bass in NJ, and will include panel discussion on bass guitars (Danelectro, Silvertone, Guild, Kramer, Vaccaro, Hartke and Brubaker) as well as amps (Ampeg, Silvertone, Guild, Hartke and Fuchs) and of course, strings (DR). I will have vintage and rare examples of all on display. The panel begins at 1pm, and I'll be setting up at about 12:30. While not everyone has responded in final, Larry Hartke, Paul Unkert, and several members of the Kramer and Vaccaro plants have been invited to sit on the panel, and Dennis Kager, formerly of Ampeg, has sent a brief note. There will be a demo of some of the instruments and amps as well as a jam at the end. The panel will be followed by an all things Kramer panel segued from my panel. See you all there!
Tom, Great panel you put together. Really enjoyed it and learned alot of things about bass and NJ that I never new. Love that Brubaker Bass can't wait for them to make a 4 string.
Marty, great to meet you too! Commreman, you were magnificent, and I am honored you did the panel with me. I am hearing from many that the jam with you and Dave (Sixpack324 here on Talkbass) at the end was legendary. Brookdale TV loved it! Thanks again for being part of it Ed! Oh, and I"ll take a second to say thank you also to Gary Tallent who took his only tour day off to come and listen to our panel!
Thanks Tom! It was a ton of fun. Having Garry there kept me on my toes - I play a lot of his lines in the Godsons. The jam at the end was totally off the cuff - Dave played this beautiful piece he wrote that was really fun to solo over. I met a lot of really nice folks, and a lot of TB'ers. Overall, a really great day.
How did I miss another TBer at the show? And I gotta say.... Jamming with Ed was awesome.... If anyone ever gets the opportunity to see Ed play, or better yet...Jam with him....I HIGHLY recommend it.. Ed's got the ability to make you "feel" every note he plays. Even when he's just noodling around. I played a little warm-up lick of mine and Ed took it to a whole other level with the solo he put over it. Just an awesome bassist. Thanks again Tom for the opportunity!!
