I bought an SX jazz 5 a few months ago while waiting on my Bongo 5 and decided to finally take it to a rehearsal last night. I am absolutely certain there is no better bass bargain on the market today. I was floored by the thing. It has great action with no buzzes, a barky, ballsy, midrangy sound, a tight and defined B-string, it cuts through the mix, it stayed in tune... what else could I say... all for around $130.
  2. Just dropped $140 on an SX Jazz. Was hoping it wasn't a foolish thing to do. Knowing that your SX did a good job is comforting.

BTW. Checked out your web site. Good tunes.

I received the 4 string SX Jazz I ordered Monday yesterday morning. That's right two day turn around (I am only one state away). Played it for about an hour last night. Overall it is a very nice bass for 135 bucks.

    The negatives I found are:

    - Slight neck dive.
    - Action is high.
    - Intonation slightly out.
    - Extremely light gauge of stock strings.

Having said that, all of those "negatives" are EASILY rectified with a setup and strap adjustment. I have found the same thing on factory setup instruments 4 times the SX cost.

    Positive attributes:

    - Rondo's service is exceptional.
    - Quiet pickups that have a high output.
    - Light weight.
    - Fit and Finish FAR ABOVE what I expected for $135.

Overall, great deal for a completely serviceable instrument. Mine will be used for an alternate tuning setup (D, G, C, F) and as a backup. It won't replace my primary but I would have no problem using it in a gig setting if my main would go down.
