I think the only difference is the wood body
500s are mahogany and the 400s use basswood.

I also think the 500s are made in Japan and the 400s made in Korea.

  3. There's another difference if it is the newer BTB515E

The BTB515E comes with Bartolini pick-up and preamp instead of Ibanez.

    Would the BTB515E, beat the BTB405 ? (woods,pickups"obviously",finish,etc)

    thanks

  5. The BTB515E absolutely is in another league than the 405. It blows it out of the water. The only thing I don't love about it is that the B was a little iffy IMO.

The Japan-made Ibanezes are very solid. Not breathtaking, but good, at least the ones I've played. The Korean made ones that I've played, IME, are not. This has absolutely nothing to do with either country in total, so don't get political on me :D The MTD Kingston and Saratoga, which are made in Korea, are AWESOME basses.

The Japanese Fenders, like the Geddy Lee bass, are high quality basses.

    When it comes to Ibanezes....

If I have a choice between a Korean guitar and a Japanese one, I'd pick the Japanese guitar in a second.

  7. I second Chris!

However here when I shopped for my BTB the 510E was almost twice the price of the 400...

So I went with the 400!

  8. Another very important difference between the 405 and the 515 is the neck.

If I'm not wrong, the 515 have asymetrical neck profiles.. I wish the neck on my 405 was asymetrical too.:(

How Much would you be paying for each one?
