Looking for the best budget amp to go with (2) 210 cabs. Using for a backup for my Markbass LMII. Playing rock and blues. Looking at amps in the $200-300ish range.

    The contestants are:
    1. Acoustic B200H
    2. GK Backline 600
    3. Hartke HA2500
    4. Ashdown EB-180H

    Opinions, experiences?

If you put the BL 600 with a good cab it is loud enough with great tone to cover just about most gigs as long as its not heavy metal. Its a great budget head and sturdy gigger. I have had mine for years and wouldnt trade it for anything.

my HA2500 has served me well for the last year and a half. very versatile, the EQ lets you get what ever you want and the contour controls help as well. i never found the compressor in it as bad as every one says. it always kept it below 4 and it always sounded fine. plenty loud too, ive gigged it heavily in all different type of venues. its also taken some falls out of the truck and never skipped a beat. great amp!

    Get the Hartke.

The preamp is extremely flexible and the unit is both dependable and rugged. Plus it is also readily rackmountable.

My second choice is hands down the GK.

    readily rackable- not so much

i had to make some makeshift mounts for it and it never fit well in the case.

other than that, i love it.

Dude, with an LMII, you'd never be satisfied with any of those amps for a backup. Save a few extra beans and get a used LMII.

I have an Ashdown 180 EB 15" combo, which, as i understand, is the same amp as the 180 head you have listed. I LOVE it! I have an Ashdown 2x10 extension that I add to (in addition to the 15" in the combo) and it sounds great with or without. My experience is limited, but I like it enough that I would buy another... So the EB 180H head got my vote.

It is supposed to come with the rackmount hardware.

    Did yours get lost?

  10. Roland Bass 100 used and you can add a cab if needed or use the one from the LMII

I would have returned it or at least called for a discount.

When I bought my LH500 from American Musical Supply it showed up with a scratch on one side. I made a phone call and got 5% off no questions asked. I racked it and you can't even see it!

What kind of bass do you play?
I have a G&L Trib.L-2000 which has active electronics and it would clip my friend's G&L backline head all day long, even with the pad on, but I haven't clipped my B200H yet.

Of course that's just one used GK... could have been a faulty head.

Edit: Also, two 2x10s will sound really great with the B200H. I have their 4x10 which only pulls about 100-115 watts from the head and it sounds really great. Assuming your cabs are wired 8 ohms each maybe? You'll get the full 200 and trust me it's a powerful 200.

+1, but it's a small price to pay for that kind of value.

It's like if Behringer was good...

My vote would be for the Hartke 2500, I've had one for the past two years and it's been an awesome amp. I love the graphic EQ, and you can get drastically different sounds out of the two preamps (although one is tube emulation, it actually sounds pretty decent). It's extremely durable too, mine's taken an incredible beating but still works perfectly. Only drawback is it's pretty heavy.

Thank you all for you feedback and votes. I took all of it into consideration to make a decision and then a buddy of mine call me up and needed some PC parts, I have a bunch in a closet so long story short I give him some parts and $200 and he gives me his slightly used Ashdown Mag 600 head. So I ended up with a much better head than I planed on and hopefully It will pair up with nicely with my 2 Ashdown ABM cabs. I couldnt have ven planned something to work out this smoothly. My LMII may become the backup now. whoot whoot! :bassist:

So you deliberately wasted our time with this silly poll, and we pour our hearts out to you, only to find you went completely off the poll and got a better head for cheap. I, for one, am hurt beyond repair.

    :D

J/K...the Mag 600 is a nice head. I don't like it better than the LMII but I do like it as far as SS heads go. I can tell you one thing with absolute certainty, though...the Mag 600 will look better on your Ashdown cabs ;)
