i kept myself awake for a while last night thinking about signal routing and CV and stuff.... and it occurred to me that it would be amazing for me to have a box that passes the original signal through, and then has two buffered additional outputs, possibly with volume controls, so i can put it right after my OC2 and send one dry signal to a DI for a clean sub signal to FOH, send the other buffered output to the 'key input' on my WMD FatMan, and have the straight, un-buffered signal go through to the next pedal in the chain.

does anyone know about something like this? i might have to ask my studio tech if he can build it... i'm going to try it with a passive split and see if it messes up the loading on the pedals.

    Axess Buffer
you can sorta do this with a Boss LS-2 as well
I think Gigrig make something similar to the Axess as well

Toadworks have just made something that will come out at Namm that does this I think

Go OC-2 into DI thru out on DI into Ajax, problem sorted

well, LS-2 has all outputs buffered, right?

and, if you put OC-2 before the LS-2, all its outputs will be the square wave... or do you refer to that as your clean signal? :D
+ LS-2 doesn't let you control the level of outputs, just the level of inputs...

but it is the cheapest and if you buy 2 (or some other blender), you have more options (you can have your clean (bass guitar) signal and two or three squarewave signals)

if you have the money, have it built, it will be exactly what you want and smaller...

Actually the LS-2 controls the volume of the returns not the sends

that's what I said, though I used "inputs" for "returns" and "outputs" for "sends" :) but the point is, if you go input --> all thre outputs, all the output levels are the same, right? and all of them are buffered, right?

Erm yeah I think we are agreeing :D

As for using all 3 outputs I'm not sure its possible as the main output doesn't work unless there is something returning to the unit in the loops. If that makes sense.

maybe just through a passive DI and then just wire up a Y cable... if it doesn't work, then i'll know i need to get something built... my only concern is that i may want to be able to control the volume to the 'key in' seperately, and possibly the DI send, that is if i don't use my own DI....

I think dummy plugs could do the trick... I aint 100% though...

IMO, the LS-2 is too cheap (used at least) not to have one when you have multiple pedals already. You can always use it as a blender, but it can sometimes help you achieve a certain signal routing design you have in your head, which seems to be the case here :)

I once sold mine because it just gave me ideas which produced more GAS. Now that I gave myself a 50 EUR limit on pedals (per pedal of course), I have one again :p

btw, who would think the <50 EUR price range is not that limiting, on the used market... especially now that the British pound is so low compared to the Euro, I just cannot ignore that discount, hehe

Lehle makes some awesome solutions for this sort of routing/splitting.

Just for the record, I used the equivalent of a Y-cable (except in a box with a switch to mute one side) to send a dry signal to my filter's trigger input, and it worked great. Obviously, different basses and pedals will react differently, but it's worth a shot.

dig it. thanks... i am gonna try it out today and see how it works for me.... hopefully it will totally be fine without anything fancy/active... i like simplicity.

    haha...

i'm going to put it in a box with 6 knobs on it that do nothing though, just so people will freak out when they see pictures.

if there are any level matching issues, i guess then i will have to check out buffered splitters.

it will be pretty fresh, though, if i can make my rig more like a modular synth, with modulation sources that are not in line... i'm hoping that it will make it more expressive.
