    Hello all

I'm considering putting together a bass, probably from Warmoth, and I'm looking for a neck wood that is the tonal equivalent of maple (or close to) but does not need to be finished. Preferably the lighter the better as well. I plan on using an ebony or pau ferro fretboard.

As for the body, I'm thinking either koa or mahogany. For pickups, I'm kinda set on a single coil in the bridge position and a humbucker in the middle - I've tried this combination out on another and found it suits me fine, tho I'm not sure specifically which brand I should get.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Oak is a nice neck wood, that don't necessarily need finish. But of course, all woods enjoy a little oil now and then...
