Could anyone tell me the color scheme that was on the Fender Precision used by JJ Burnel in the Stranglers inthe 70's. I recall it being an appleburst (with a tortoiseshell scratchplate and rosewood neck), but don't know what the official Fender name would be. Anyone?

I think recent pictures show him using a black on black P-bass...not sure about older ones though

That's right - the early one was broken years ago I believe - G.

check out one of the more recent issues of bass guitar magazine. it showed him both with a green precision, and a black/black.

  6. I suspect strongly that the sort-of-greenburst P bass he used in the early days (that he bought from Hugh Cornwell) was a refinish.

it does look vaguely like the antigua finish, but that's brown rather than green.
