I've got an iMac G4 PPC and I burned a few old band songs from iTunes onto CDs for a couple of friends.

These discs won't play in their players - either in the car or at home. Mass skippage.
Tried 'em at work in the ol' Bosch PB-10 and it was horrid (the skips - the songs, not so much :))

I burned them onto CD-R discs, which I thought were recommended for macs. Is there a formalization or formatting step I don't know about.
Are these discs not recommended for most players?

    Thanx in advance

I can't see why the discs would be any problem. I pretty much throw whatever at my mac and it works just fine.

You could certainly try a different type of disc and see if that's the problem. Otherwise, I'd think that maybe there's a hardware problem involved. Do you have an external drive you might try?

    Thanks for the response BurningSkies!

My mac never has problems playing CDs or DVDs -- even when they won't play in other players. My machine handles everything I've ever put into it. Even the worst maintained CDs from my drummer friend who never uses his jewel cases to store his discs in! My machine plays 'em just fine when no other player in the house will (same with DVDs).

Today I burned some CDs on my iMac and I've been playing 'em on the different players we have around the house, and they all seem to be playing fine. So I don't know what the problem is when others play 'em. I did run the lens cleaner thru the player for maintenance sake.

Maybe I'll buy some CD+R just to see if that makes a diff when burning music for friends.

What speed are you using? Try 16x.

It's on "Maximum Possible" Preferred Speed which is set @ 24x.
Do you think I should change it?

Now that I'm looking at this "Advanced" window under "Burning" in iTunes, I see I have it designated for "Disc Format" @ "Audio CD".
Perhaps this should be changed to Disc Format @ "MP3 CD" as my iTunes files are MP3s? Yes/no?

Could be a combination of bad discs and burn speed. Lower the burn speed to 16x or less. Use name brand discs.

Don't change the disc format, just the speed.

If you want a regular CD, it must be set to audio cd.

OK - speed lowered to 16x. Kept on Audio CD.

Thanx for the info all! Always fun learning!

The discs I burned this morning play on all my decks, incl my car player, no prob. Burning on Sony™® discs.
