Hi, I was just wondering what precautions i need to take when buying a cab and head seperately. for example do they need to be the same wattage? do they have to be of the same brand? etc. I am thinking of buying a cab for arond 200 pounds and using my crappy 15w marshall guitar amp head on that until I can afford a decent bass head. And help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That seems like a sound plan. I'd say get an 8 ohm cab if you're not sure, that way you could still add to it later. Power ratings don't really count for too much, as they're normally thermal. No such thing as underpowering, so base your decision on tone. If you want more volume, you want more speakers.
