I am heading to Mexico on a business trip tomorrow and it occurred to me that I may be able to pick up a MIM Fender for giggles and save some coin.

Has anyone here on TB ever traveled to Mexico and come home with a Fender MIM bass? If so, how did prices compare down there vs. up here.

Any stores to recommend in Mexico City?

    Thanks!

From what I've seen in stores there they are more expensive than in the US. Quite a bit more where I was anyway(Playa Del Carmen)

Dunno. There are moving parts, one being the exchange rate which is currently favorable to the US dollar.

Go online and compare the price of a mexican model in a mexican guitar shop and then compare it to any random US retailer.

It won't be any cheaper - Fender is not a Mexican company - it's just that the factory is located there. The retailers are authorized Fender dealers just like here with the same price constraints.
