I'm looking to buy a fretless, and I wanna spend around $800. Right now my only electric is a Warwick Corvette. I want something completely different from it. I'm probably going to get a Fender American Standard fretless Jazz, unless anyone out there can give me good reasons to go for something else...any suggestions?

Since you want something completely different, I'd suggest a Carvin AC40 which is an acoustic/electric. You order it from the website and have them build whatever you want: you choose wood, lined or unlined, color, etc. With the Labella nylon wound strings they put on it, the difference in sound is emphasized. Very cool.

for $800 you could probably find a used (new condition) Godin A4 fretless. Great semi acoustic bass right there.
