Buying my first Upright that will be completely mine

I was looking into buying one but opted for a fretless. I remember body and neck integrity are essential. Some necks are repaired and fine, check intonation by harmonics to confirm. Rattles from open strings may indicate interior support problems.

If you have an instructor have them take a look at it, or have it evaluated at a local music store.

Congrats on whatever you buy and enjoy it!

 

1)Go visit the largest shop you can find and play a bunch of basses.
2)Have someone else play while you listen.
3)Buy the one within your budget that you like best.

In the end, you will know.

 

And on point #2, if you are taking lessons, the "someone else" should be your teacher.
