Hey, as the title says, im gonna buy my first upright and i was wondering if you guys have any tips on buying, shopping around. I just want a good used one at a local shop that i can mic and fit for like piezo and input stuff. I will use it for jazz upright. Any tips recommendations, introductions to the process of buying an upright?

Check out the newbie links and use the search function, that's the most asked question on this board!

My only advise would be try before you buy, if possible.

    Good luck!

I was looking into buying one but opted for a fretless. I remember body and neck integrity are essential. Some necks are repaired and fine, check intonation by harmonics to confirm. Rattles from open strings may indicate interior support problems.

If you have an instructor have them take a look at it, or have it evaluated at a local music store.

Congrats on whatever you buy and enjoy it!

  5. And on point #2, if you are taking lessons, the "someone else" should be your teacher.

    Good luck.
