I'm looking at a Takamine acoustic bass at one of the online stores, and I'm wondering about other's experiences buying online. Are there certain things I need to watch out for, like staying away from certain retailers?

  2. Watch out for shipping.Make sure you put plenty of insurance on your item ( enough for a replacement plus for your troubles ) UPS damaged an amp of mine and its been 2 months and still no refund.Try to stay clear of UPS.Other than that,if you have played the said instrument and are not buying something blind, than I say go for it. :bassist:

I've had nothing but good experience with musician's friend. I even bought a $1200 amp, played it for a week or two, and returned it with absoluetly no problems. That was cool.

Just look for the free shipping offers, and remember that if they are out of state you won't pay sales tax.

If you have a cool local shop, its much better to support them, if not ... go online.

I've tried Musician's Friend, Sam Ash, Zzounds, Bass Central, and Upton Bass, and have have great luck with all. Most of the reputable online shippers are known by people on here, and quite a few disreputable ones, too. The best thing to do is ask people on here before you buy something if the company is unknown.

Thanks for the responses. I am looking at a Takamine EG512C at Music123, and they seem to have the best deal, which includes the case.
