Buzzing problem

I am having a buzzing problem with my Mtd Kingston 5

    I will try to explain

When I am playing, if I am resting my thumb on the pickup and it is touching one of the poles, there is a constant buzz.
It will happen if a plucking finger touches a pole also.
But it goes away as long as I am not touching a pole.

If I mess with the instrument cable at the output jack I can
get it to go away for a bit.....But it always comes back.
Also, if I turn the tone control all the way down it stops.
So it seem to be related to the tone control.
One more thing, when I hold a right hand finger on one of the poles to get the buzz going, THEN touch the bridge or a tuner
with my left hand, the buzz will go away as long as I am touching the bridge or tuner.....I dont know if that means it is a grounding problem or what.....I have been shocked by the bass before in a friends basement.

Is this normal that exposed poles are this noisey when you touch them? I mean, its not like a small amount of noise.
The buzz is almost as loud as what I am playing.

    thank you for any help
