When I hook my bass(1963 Gibson) up to my amp, it makes a strange buzzing sound that drowns out the bass sounds. Is it me, or there something wrong with my bass?

    Welcome to Talkbass.:D

I think this thread would be more suited for the Setup Forum.

  3. Could be a number of things

    Questions

    1) Does it still occur if the volume knob is all the way down?
If so I would suspect a wiring or ground problem.
    2) Can you plug another bass or guitar into the amp? Does it make noise as well?

If so it could be a cable or something in the amp.

    3) If other instruments are quiet, and the sound goes away when the volume is "off" I would suspect problems with the pick up/ wiring or even a ground problem with the strings.

Let me know how you make out.

    1.)Yes.
    2.)Yes.
thank you so much. I'll take it to a specialist to see if something is up with the strings.

  5. If you answered question #2 (does the problem still occur with another instrument or no instrument) yes. Then the problem is likely in the cable or the amp.
